VENUE 045
The Factory THE FACTORY
ho chi minh city, vietnam ASIA/PACIFIC/OCEANIA
Owner Mihn Le’s very first ideas to create a live music club came after he attended the opening of the Acoustic Bar three years ago. As the name suggests, Acoustic Bar’s music fare was mainly acoustic rock. In his own words Le “started nursing the concept of a metal workshop, a rough place with screws, pipes, metallic design... a special assembly that processes delights.” That now aptly sums up The Factory and its Processing Delights subheading. Mihn Le is a graphic designer and a music lover. He initiated his career playing drums in a rock band in Saigon during the ‘90s after graduating from the renowned Conservatoire of Ho Chi Minh City. Thus, combining his visual concepts with his love of live rock, were key factors in realising The Factory.
The venue was actually created through the almost total rebuilding of an old town house in Ho Chi Minh’s central District 1 and that, together with meeting stringent reconstruction regulations meant the project was complicated and time consuming. The charming results speak for themselves; though being a relatively compact club covering just 350 square metres with a 200-capacity, the innovative, contemporary, industrial, almost cartoon like interior and exterior are a credit to Le’s vision.
In addition to its unique visual design aspects Minh Le, laughs about the address number 102 (Môt-Không-Hai), “because in Vietnamese, Môt-Không-Hai means unique or exclusive,” he said. An auspicious coincidence.
“The technician is my friend”, said Le, “I have known and worked with him for many years so he knows what I want and what is best for the club”. Interestingly he chose Beta Three as the main sound system, which is designed in Italy, made in China and has a Belgium based website. The technician chose to install four Beta Three WS 115 speakers, two Beta Three WS 1800B subwoofer, two Beta Three WS 112 monitors, which are powered by three Wood II MA 7200 amplifiers and a further Beta Three A8 Series amplifier. The Factory has just celebrated its first anniversary and it’s no surprise that the venue is hugely popular with its Minh Le’s choice of peer clientele – young artists, stylists, and people with a taste for fun.
