Tobago has a deserved reputation for the thrilling
drift dives that typify the diving available off the
island’s Atlantic coast. However, the main appeal of
Tobago is its amazing diversity of sites. The
Caribbean coast offers fantastic marine life,
beautiful reefs and coral encrusted rocks that mean
you do not necessarily have to be an experienced
diver to get the most out of diving in Tobago.
SPEYSIDE DIVING
The nutrient rich waters of the Guyana current,
which flows along the Atlantic coast, offer some
thrilling diving. The concentration of over twenty
excellent dive sites just a few minutes boat ride
from Speyside has been responsible for putting
Tobago firmly on the Caribbean diving map.
The strong currents typically encountered off the
Atlantic coast make the diving more suitable for
experienced divers who will appreciate the
exhilarating drifts and exciting marine life, which
include sharks and rays. Between November and
May, both eagle and manta rays are likely to be
seen at key sites like the aptly named Manta City.
Kelleston Drain is another one of Tobago’s most
renowned dive sites and home to the largest brain
coral colony in the Caribbean. Measuring 3m by
5.3m, this amazing sight marks the culmination of
a beautiful drift dive.
CROWN POINT DIVING
Divers staying at the southern end of the island
around Crown Point have access to a number of
wonderful dive sites. This area benefits from the
influence of the Orinoco River, whose nutrient rich
waters support an abundance of marine life.
The Caribbean coast of Tobago is not exposed to
such strong currents. Sheltered reefs of hard and
soft corals, colourful sponges and a thriving fish
population make diving the Caribbean coast
rewarding for divers of all levels of experience.
A short distance off the coast of Tobago,
experienced divers can enjoy a wonderful day’s
diving at Sisters. These rocky outcrops,
