Hurghada
Great access to a diverse range
of dive sites, from spectacular reefs
to exciting wrecks
Hurghada offers a fantastic choice of dive sites,
many of which are sheltered and within a short
boat ride of the resort. Outstanding reefs and
drop-offs are available, whilst Hurghada’s
location also gives access to the legendary
wreck graveyard of Sha’ab Abu Nuhas.
AN INCREDIBLE DIVERSITY OF CORALS
Hurghada’s many dive sites offer an abundance of
reef marine life and an incredible diversity of
corals, including impressive towers and pinnacles
to explore. There is also a large number of safe
and sheltered sites with plentiful reefs and superb
visibility. Sha’ab El Erg is a particularly popular
dive site, a huge horseshoe-shaped reef,
dotted with ergs, that is renowned for its dolphins
and turtles.
DIVING THE GIFTUN ISLANDS
The spectacular marine park surrounding the
Giftun Islands is a highlight, with nearly ten sites
and a variety of dive plans to suit all experience
levels. There is enough here to keep most divers
completely absorbed, including an incredible wall
tumbling to more than 50m, drift dives and
spectacular gorgonian fans.
SPECTACULAR WRECKS
For wreck enthusiasts, there is no better
experience than a boat trip to Sha’ab Abu Nuhas,
which is usually available at least once a week.
Situated about halfway between Hurghada and
Ras Mohammed, this reef patch lies next to a
major shipping lane. It is home to four wrecks,
including the amazing Giannis D, populated with
soft corals and incredible shoals of glassfish.
MARINE LIFE IN THE AQUARIUM
Just south of Abu Ramada, Gota Abu Ramada is
well known for its incredible marine life that has
earned this site the title of ‘the Aquarium.’ This is
a paradise for photographers and is also
particularly popular for night dives and
snorkelling. A number of pinnacles support an
array of multicoloured angelfish, butterflyfish and
parrotfish. There is plenty to explore here
including a lush hard coral garden with wonderful
clusters of brain corals.
