Diving in Cuba
Cuba has a vast and beautiful coastline, with an

cultural heritage. Coral gardens, expansive
reefs, valleys and wrecks - Cuba has them all.

WALLS AND CANYONS
There are 50 recognised dive sites, of which 30
are named and regularly dived, all situated within
a short boat ride from the resort’s own jetty. Most
of the diving is set against a fantastic wall that
drops vertically from several metres below sea
level, into the blue. Beautiful canyons in the wall
drop to depths of 30m, with spectacular sponges
rising up from the wall’s sides.
BLACK CORAL AND DRAMATIC LIGHT
This area of Cuba is recognised for its black coral
and nutrient rich seabed, feeding a wide variety of
Gorgonians, which grow to an impressive size.
Typical inhabitants of the Caribbean such as
barracuda, grouper and angel fish abound. In the
months of May and June, sandy beaches allow
turtles to nest, and during August and September,
whale sharks may be seen residing in the large
bay. Excellent visibility provides fantastic photo
opportunities.
YEAR ROUND DIVING
Cuba benefits from water temperatures averaging
24ºC in the winter months to 30ºC during summer.
Rainfall is infrequent, but June, July and October
are typically the months to expect higher than
average rainfall.
Maria La Gorda is best suited to experienced
divers. Dive courses are currently not available for
pre-booking. It is recommended that you take
your own dive equipment when travelling to Cuba.

OUR OPINION
This small friendly resort is situated on a sweeping palm-fringed
beach and is host to some of Cuba’s finest dive sites. Set in a remote
location, Maria La Gorda is a simple and relaxed divers’ resort.
The area has been declared a UNESCO reserve and has beautiful scenery
both above and below the water.
