The combination of beautiful reefs and
exceptional wrecks makes Grenada a unique and
exciting Caribbean dive destination. The nutrient
rich Guyana current flows over Grenada’s
stunning volcanic coastline, contributing to a
healthy and varied coral reef environment that
has few equals in the Caribbean.
FROM MACRO TO PELAGIC
Grenada offers divers an exceptional range of
dive sites with over 30 sites concentrated around
the southwest tip of the island alone. The diving
on the island varies dramatically in character and
suits all kinds of diver.
The islands’ volcanic base has created wonderful
dramatic dives and beautiful coral gardens that
feature extensive fields of delicate black coral and
a large variety of macro life.
Further offshore there are some exhilarating drift
dives, which draw an impressive range of pelagic
species. You can also expect to see both nurse
and reef sharks, along with barracudas, turtles
and a variety of ray species.
WRECKS AND SCULPTURES
In all there are nine attractive wrecks just a short
boat ride from Grenada jetty. The Bianca C is a
200m cruise liner that sank in 1961. Resting at a
gentle angle, the wreck now supports a large variety
of marine life and has numerous points of interest.
The island’s most recent wreck, Hema 1, lies at a
depth of 27m. The boat sank on its way to Trinidad
in 2005, and is already attracting healthy coral
growth and cruising schools of fish seeking shelter.
Moliniere reef, within the National Marine Park,
has been brought alive and transformed by the
work of Jason de Caires Taylor. His human form
sculptures, present fantastic photographic
opportunities whilst forming a new home for
underwater sea life and give an entirely new
perspective to the diver.
