Tui Travel won this category for introducing Highly commended
what judges described as an “astonishing
cultural shift” in its high street shops. The Abang Africa
efforts being made could bring about a “sea Travel & Trust
change” in travel retail that would enable
agents to sell more sustainable holidays with Contiki Holidays
a “new-found confidence”, judges felt. Tui was
praised for its Environmental Charter for all Travel Designers
Thomson and First Choice shops, and for its
World Care Fund programme, which educates Travel Republic
agents about sustainability and gives them
material to explain the issues to customers.
Judges were impressed by practical measures
such as a new Greener Holidays brochure,
and Tui’s efforts to monitor its progress in this
area. The Maca Bana villas in Grenada were
highly commended for a business model that
incorporated most elements of sustainability.
