MANCHESTER
Manchester narrowly beat Birmingham Birmingham Int’l
because of what judges felt was an Highly commended
“incredible” improvement in passenger
experience this year: the development and Bournemouth Airport
investment in facilities, transport links and
security arrangements had brought dramatic East Midlands Airport
benefit to customers. Judges were impressed
by the specific improvements of the £80m London Luton Airport
investment detailed in the entry, from a
new railway to moving all retail airside and Southampton Airport
refurbishing all toilets. They also cited
Manchester’s approach to agents, saying it
had taken on policies followed by smaller
airports in the Manchester Airports Group
to become more trade friendly. Birmingham
International was highly commended for
being one of the few airports to increase
passenger numbers and routes in the past
year, as well as working closely with the trade.
