Hotel turns to iVolt to save on bills


The owners of one of Britain's top spa hotels are set to slash their bills by £8,000 a year after installing an iVolt unit as part of a drive to tackle rising energy prices.


As well as the financial savings, bosses at Sussex's five star Alexander House will see their annual carbon emissions drop by around 70 metric tonnes - the equivalent of taking 14 family cars off the road each year.


With an award-winning spa and pool complex, two restaurants and 38 rooms, the former manor house was consuming 1.23mkWh of energy and running up annual bills of more than £80,000 before the intelligent voltage optimisation system was installed and instantly lowered the site's electricity consumption by 10%.


Michael Thomas, the Group Financial Controller at Alexander Hotels & Utopia Spa, said "We came across iVolt after seeing a piece in The Hotelier about the company's work to reduce the energy consumption at another hotel and so we began to look into optimising our power supply. We looked at another voltage optimisation manufacturer too but found iVolt to be by far the most professional and knowledgeable. The installation went seamlessly and we're pleased with the savings."

works most efficiently - cutting the amount of electricity used from the moment it is switched on.


By stabilising the voltage and preventing surges in power, the iVolt also protects equipment such as motors, pumps and bulbs, improving the lifespan and reducing the need for maintenance and servicing in the long run.

This groundbreaking device, which is integrated into every unit, enables the team at Alexander House to track their savings instantly and accurately. As well as being used to educate staff about their energy usage, the data the IRT monitor provides enables the team to confidently predict a site's return on investment - in this case, three years. As a variable reduction system, the iVolt also allowed for up to 30% greater savings than fixed reduction units.

While iVolt's in-depth site surveys showed the other sites would not benefit as greatly from an optimised power supply, the management team has turned to gas burner management units, low wattage bulbs and solar panels elsewhere in a bid to further reduce the group's impact on the environment.
