A DAY IN THE LIFE OF...
LOUIS BEGHIN A PARALEGAL SPECIALIST
My day starts with taking my dog “Harry” for a walk, something that you have to do come rain or shine. It is always very pleasurable when the sun is shining but definitely focuses your mind when the wind is blowing and it is pouring down with rain. I retired from the States of Jersey Police in July 2014 as an Inspector, having served a total of thirty-one and a half years, much of my service was as a detective working in areas such as CID, Fraud, Special Branch, Child Protection and the Drugs Squad. I have some very fond memories of my time “in the job” and have worked with some great people. I have also been involved in some of the most notable investigations undertaken by the Force, especially during my time in the Fraud and Drugs Squad.
Despite the adverse comments and criticism of the investigation into Curtis Warren it remains the highlight of my career and it is worth bearing in mind that thanks to the work of the Drugs Squad that day, the States of Jersey Police achieved something that had thwarted the UK law enforcement agencies ever since Curtis Warren burst onto the drugs scene in the early 90’s, and that is to successfully convict him. I could go on at length about the investigation and the actions of certain people years after the event but that is for another day.
When I reflect on my career when taking “Harry” for a walk I realised that over those thirty one years I gained a lot of experience, experience which comes from attending courses, everyday learning and from working in some of the more specialist areas of police work. From conducting covert surveillance operations to negotiating with someone who has taken a hostage, from conducting interviews with people accused of extremely serious offences to advising on public order situations. It is experience that is never lost and therefore setting up SkyFall Investigation Services and SkyFall Collections seemed to me to be a way of putting that experience to good use, whether it be attending Court to present cases or trying to locate people who have gone to ground, so to speak, owing money. Reading and understanding files of potential evidence allows me to put years of experience to good use.
