SOME QUESTIONS FOR NATASHA:


Question: What do you do to unwind at the end of a long day? Answer:My first love is cooking which I have inherited from my mother who in fact taught me both GCSE and A-level Home Economics. So a dinner party at our cottage in Gorey is a common occurrence; I am at my happiest when I’m surrounded by people sharing food, Sancerre and good stories.


I am also a bit of an adrenalin junky and I’ve


on for Qi Finance that requires our attention every day for a month and has been wonderful for the team to get their creative teeth into.


It was then a rush to catch the flight to London City with Blue Islands - the team are always so excellent and helped me through security in a flash. At the other end it was a quick transfer to my central London hotel, which afforded me time to catch up with emails on my Blackberry (it constantly entertains my clients that I juggle three phones – one Blackberry for work, my personal phone and another phone that I Tweet from that takes good pictures). The afternoon was assigned to copywriting from my remote office and then getting ready for the ‘Food and Travel Magazine Awards’, which were due to take place that evening. I was attending in support of my client, Shaun Rankin, who was nominated for the international accolade, ‘Restaurant of the Year – Best Newcomer’ for his acclaimed new restaurant, Ormer. The night ended well with a giant glass trophy and a celebratory drink – the perfect end to a 20-hour day!


Of course not every day is quite this long but it’s generally as fast paced. The current revitalisation of the local business climate has meant an exponential growth in the work we are seeing at The Refinery with PR being widely utilised and social media and digital strategies constantly in demand.


Thankfully I’ve not quite lost track of the importance of the work/life balance; the end of a working day may see a gym session and will inevitably end with me cooking for my partner and trying to ignore my dangerous weakness for cheese and wine.

enjoyed a skydive, love to go skiing and frequently scuba- dive - my best dive to date was with whale sharks and manta rays off the coast of Koh Tao, Thailand.


Question:What do you like most about your job? Answer: Fridays! Seriously though, it’s the creativity. I love brainstorming with the team and feeding off each other’s diverse skill sets. Creativity brings us all together whether that’s through writing, design or marketing strategy. There’s inspiring work being done by marketing agencies in Jersey and I am proud to be a part of it.


Question: What is the hardest part of your job? Answer: Constantly juggling deadlines, multiple clients and strategies whilst keeping a cool head! And then switching off again in the evenings so I can spend valuable time with my family. I recently went to an excellent Prosperity 24.7 seminar in Jersey that asked whether Jersey has an ‘Infobesity’ epidemic and learnt a lot about the value of having balance in our lives and the power of people versus machines.


Question: What advice would you give to someone looking at a career in PR? Answer: Don’t go into this career thinking it’s all champagne and parties – there is quite a bit of that but you’re generally working at them! Instead, you need to have a head for strategy, lobbying and an ability to write to purpose. Mix in a good amount of multi-tasking and organisational skills and you have your ideal PR person. Don’t even ask me about being a good director though, as I’m still learning about how to be better at that every single day…
