GEE maximises entertainment

AIX '14 Global Eagle Entertainment and

Southwest Airlines combined forces at the AIX confernece to present their gate- to-gate wifi and live TV system. This system is on all 445 of Southwest's

Boeing 737s and Karin Pellmann of GEE confirmed that it was a ku band system, and that the live TV worked alongside the wifi without interference, although GEE monitored it to maximise performance. The live TV is offered free by Southwest

Airlines, and the cost for films is $5, for wifi $8, and for the texting service $2. GEE's subsidiary DTI has just launched

its WISE software and content platform which it licenses to OEM partners Onair, Rockwell Collins, Honeywell and Airbus. It is a hardware agnostic system that

functions in both a connected and unconnected environment. It features the industry's largest body of movie and TV content, cleared for DRM. Upgrades and downloads of credit card

transactions and updated magazines can be effected on unconnected versions, for example, by a 3G connection from the airline server.
