Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio

Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio is a unique place and a perfect site for olive oil production, situated in the Italian region of Umbria, otherwise known as the Green Heart of Italy due to its green fields, uncontaminated environment, golden yellow sunflowers and blue sky.

This little corner of paradise is where centuries-old towns and villages bear witness to a marvellous history made from art, culture and traditions.

The Castle of Monte Vibiano stands on a hill amidst this dreamlike landscape. Just a stone's throw from Perugia, the property includes some 500 hectares of land, 200 of which are cultivated.

The first awards of excellence for the property's extra virgin olive oil and wines were received in 1926 and quality homegrown products are still of paramount importance for the owner, Lorenzo Fasola Bologna.

In 1998 Lorenzo re-launched the production of the wines in order to produce one of the top wines of Italy, L’Andrea, along with the help of one of the best enologists in Italy, Attilio Pagli.

Monte Vibiano’s olive oil is produced from the olives of the over 14,500 olive trees and is pressed and bottled the same day, mostly in 10ml bottles perfect for travel catering. The bottles are immediately shipped to the final customer or deep-frozen in order to

prevent the olive oil from ageing and losing all its beneficial aspects.

In 2010, Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio become the first farm in Italy to achieve 0 greenhouse emissions, in accordance with international standard UNI ISO 14064. It has since further lowered its CO2 emissions, going from 287 tonnes of CO2 in 2004 to minus 764 tonnes in 2008.

Leading ecological body DNV awarded a certificate attesting to the company’s eco- sustainable efforts. This is the first UNI ISO 14064 certificate released by DNV for 0 greenhouse emissions achieved through an ecological strategy and restructuring, not carbon credits.

Monte Vibiano also launched "360° Green Revolution,” an ecological plan aiming to achieve nil emissions through responsible practices such as solar panels, electric vehicles, biodiesel- fuelled tractors, organic fertilisers, replanting and green IT.

Monte Vibiano has been awarded by the Gambero Rosso as the leading environmentally-friendly winery in Italy.
