ANZ shows off Dreamliner livery


Air New Zealand has unveiled a black version of its new-look livery design, used on the first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to roll out of the paint hangar. A restyling of the ANZ white markings,


gradually rolled out across the airline's domestic fleet in recent months, this new-look uses a black colour scheme in association with the iconic New Zealand fern markings. The majority of ANZ's fleet will feature the white version but a limited number will bear this signature black look. ANZ plans to have the aircraft begin service on its Auckland-Perth route later this year and has 10 787-9s on order. "This will soon be the first 787-9 aircraft


anywhere in the world to operate commercially and I think its new look will instil a sense of pride in Kiwis and turn heads when it touches down at airports throughout Asia and the Pacific," said Capt. David Morgan, ANZ chief flight operations. The 787-9 is 20 feet longer and will


carry up to 40 more passengers than the 787-8 and is able to fly an additional 300 nautical miles. It uses 20 percent less fuel and gives out 20 percent fewer emissions than similarly sized aircraft. newairplane.com

ANA unveils new uniforms


ANA has unveiled new flight attendant and customer service uniforms which will appear this winter. Created by New York fashion designer


Prabal Gurung, whose designs have been worn by First Lady Michelle Obama, the Duchess of Cambridge and Lady Gaga, the uniforms reflect ANA’s clean, modern and minimalist brand aesthetic and will be worn by more than 13,000 of the airline’s employees. The designs feature a combination of light gray jackets and charcoal skirts and pants, enriched with eye-catching accents of ANA’s trademark blue. To differentiate each of the uniforms, Gurung created brightly coloured scarves and aprons that feature modern Japanese flower patterns, a nod to the airline’s Japanese heritage and innovative brand and service outlook. “ANA pays such close attention to detail and I wanted to celebrate this throughout the designs,” said Gurung. “My objective was a balance of elegance and timelessness with a fresh appeal” ana.co.jp

SAA launches designer cabins


Travel design specialist Priestmangoode has designed South African Airways’ cabin interiors for its new narrow body fleet of A320s, as part of the airline’s new brand strategy. Priestmangoode worked with Johannesburg-based brand consultancy The Brand Union, to develop a new identity and experience for SAA customers. Luke Hawes, director at Priestmangoode,


commented: “Until now, SAA has had minimal brand continuity throughout its interior products. The new aircraft gave them an opportunity to build a brand platform with a distinct look and feel.” The new looks aim to reflect SAA’s


national carrier status and its African associations. Guidelines specified that 80% of the look be inspired by contemporary South African culture and the remaining 20% from the wider African continent, utilising colours, materials, traditional crafts and local fashion and trends. Cabins now feature gold and anthracite


colours with highlights of burnt red and blues – all drawn from the landscapes of Africa. Patterns used take their inspiration from traditional African crafts, textiles, basket weaving and furniture. flysaa.com
