The shows were very successful, but we have to be aware of the number of conferences we ask our members to support, and we have to ask the question, 'What is the value?' We are working with APEX to host educational events globally, including one in Shanghai this November. We are continuing to evaluate IFSA’s participation in APOT as well as other industry events that add value to our membership. For the WTCE conference in Hamburg next April (8-10), we will have a presence, and will participate. I also want to make a special mention of the IFSA Foundation. In 2000, IFSA established the Foundation to provide support in the form of scholarships to help students and current industry


professionals to further their education. The awards are given to exceptional students. This year, the IFSA Foundation Board awarded over $40,000 to 13 scholars across the globe. I am pleased to share that the Foundation received additional scholarship commitments during the 2013 APEX/IFSA EXPO and are hopeful of awarding the highest total of scholarship awards next year.


What are the challenges facing our industry today? IFSA again this year was held during an anniversary of the tragedy that changed our industry, 9/11. After that fateful day, we saw the need for a complete philosophical shift and a heightened need by airlines to differentiate their brands. After initially slashing

services in late 2001, airlines are again focused on onboard services. We are seeing airlines and their suppliers focus on innovation and investing wisely, finding the most efficient ways to serve the broadest base of customers possible.” Put the dates in your diary:
