on recycling, Envirocare franchisees stand out from their local competitors. Franchisees employ operatives to complete a comprehensive grounds maintenance service for corporate clients, and the business model is based on regular, repeat business. champions repeat business as the key to commercial success. “Many of our clients are looking for better value and the improved service that comes from a national player,” he says. “We are also winning business from smaller local
competitors as our franchisees have industry-recognised accreditations. The really attractive thing about our market, however, is that clients pay for the service with a monthly charge. We visit their location regularly and the franchisee is guaranteed regular monthly income. “We do not maintain domestic locations
... the domestic market is too competitive, with little brand loyalty, for Envirocare franchisees for whom a 95 per cent client retention rate is common. As operatives of a management franchise, our franchisees employ teams who actually cut the grass and maintain the sites.” One such franchisee is Ben Grose,
who opened the Chelmsford franchise in May 2013. Ben ran his own business before, so he understands the hard work needed to be successful. “It is definitely easier with a support network behind you,

with a knowledge of the industry that is fantastic,” he says. Ben’s advice to future franchisees is to follow the model: “If you give out quotes as Envirocare show you, you will get contracts.” The franchise runs from a depot site and
the cost of the franchise reflects the costs of starting a premises-based management franchise. Franchisees will need £16,000- £18,000 in unencumbered funds, and the desire to build a substantial business. n
