Franchise Focus High Growth

Business is booming for Minster Cleaning Services INVESTMENT LEVEL: FROM £28,225

more than 30 years, Minster Cleaning Services is one of the country’s most successful franchises and a leading force in offi ce cleaning. Research organisation Key Note predicts that the annual UK contract cleaning market will continue to grow to £7.13billion by 2015 as businesses recognise the commercial benefi ts of outsourcing this essential commercial service. Appealing to such a broad client base, the commercial cleaning market isn’t too greatly affected by a downturn in any particular sector and several Minster franchisees are currently recording levels of growth that can only be described as ‘outstanding’.

Steve Pullen, Minster’s Glasgow South franchisee, has increased year- on-year sales by 21 per cent so far in 2013 and, with substantial investment in commercial property in the area, as well as preparations for the Commonwealth Games in 2014, Steve sees no reason why he won’t be able to maintain this healthy pattern of growth. Turnover at Minster’s Leeds and

Wakefi eld branch is now £1.3million following growth of 30 per cent in the last 12 months. New contracts in the healthcare sector have contributed signifi cantly as practice managers come to rely on Minster’s expertise in implementing cleaning regimes that satisfy the Care Quality Commission. Regional director, John Whyte explains: “Primary medical and dental services are now required to be Care Quality Commission registered. To comply with the standards for registration, their premises have to meet a number of essential standards which include the maintenance of appropriate levels of cleanliness and hygiene. By demonstrating our expertise in implementing cleaning regimes that satisfy these requirements, we have increased the number of practices for

ith annual turnover at £30million and a reputation for integrity and professionalism built up over

referrals – testament to the excellent service that we are providing.” The size of Minster’s territories gives franchisees almost unlimited scope for expansion and whether they buy an established business or a new territory, they can all build substantial, valuable businesses and a safe and secure future; average annual turnover is now well over £700,000 across the 41 branch network and many have achieved annual sales of over £1million.

Minster Cleaning Services was established in 1982 and has been a bfa Full Member since 1992. The high levels of support provided allow franchisees to concentrate on developing their business

which we clean to nearly 50.” Arthur Mitchell in Oxford has added business amounting to a 27 per cent sales increase in the fi rst half of this year and, with many new contracts in the pipeline including three large surgeries and two large public sector organisations, he is confi dent that he will achieve an even higher level of growth for the full year.

The Norfolk and Suffolk territory had been established for over 8 years when Kevin Lawley took over in 2011. Since then, turnover has nearly doubled and Kevin sees no signs of this level of growth slowing: “Our experience in the healthcare sector has been extremely benefi cial and we now take care of the cleaning needs of over 25 medical centres. It is particularly pleasing to see that a high proportion of our new clients have come to us through

and providing their clients with the best possible service. From day one, there is help with the transition from employment to self employment and ongoing support covers important business activities such as bookkeeping, training, marketing and the complex fi elds of employment law, health and safety and environmental legislation. New franchise opportunities include Cambridge, Doncaster, Durham, Leicester, London, Middlesex, Guildford, Peterborough and Swansea. Initial start up cost is £28,225 plus vat, which covers licence, training, computer software and hardware, stationery, machinery, equipment and materials. In addition, between £40,000 and £60,000 working capital will be needed – fi nance is available from leading banks subject to status. Also, there are currently established franchises available for resale in Bristol, the North West Midlands, South Wales, Dundee and Derbyshire at a fee of £10,000 plus vat, in addition to the purchase price of the business. n
