Day in the life
Better day
Wynne Hughes reveals a typical working day managing and growing his Betterclean Services business in Swansea
7.30am I wake up and take my dog for a walk and then sit down and have breakfast with the family.
8.45am My office is based at home so I don’t have too far to go! For peace of mind I check all the contracts for the last 24 hours are completed and that my supervisor is on top of any problems that may have occurred. I then check my emails – my supervisor will provide me with a daily report by email. I then call my supervisor for a general catch up.
10.00am I have time to take a quick morning break, so I make myself a cup of tea and then check to see the location of the next Swansea City football match to take my son to – I’m a big fan!
10.30am I prepare for an initial meeting with a new client by reading up on their business and doing some background checks. I then get changed into my suit.
11.00am I visit a prospective client and have a leads meeting with the office manager – we get on well and following the meeting I take them out for lunch.
12.30pm After lunch, I visit the other sites the office manager is in charge of for the business. The office manager I am dealing with is the representative for a potential client who are a multi-site business, this means they would need commercial cleaning over several of their sites.

3.30pm I return to my home office and call Mike Pinwell (my business development mentor at Betterclean Services) about the meeting and for advice on how to pitch a quote to the company.
4.30pm After the call I start writing up the quote ready to send over to Mike to ensure it gets the highest chance of being accepted for the maximum profit, and that the tasks are adequate enough to deliver the quality that our cleaning services provide.
5.00pm I call a few local dealer principals to check their details are correct for our next targeted local marketing campaign. Dealer principals are the people in charge of a car dealership, who would be key decision makers for a commercial cleaning contract.
5.15pm I like to unwind by spending time with my family in the evenings, walking the dog and trying to catch a football match on the TV. n
