EDITOR’S COLUMN
“I reckon I’d do moderately well in a quiz round on franchising”
“I’ve started so I’ll fi nish...”
S
ince I began in this job, well a few months in at least, I have become something of a franchise geek. I see franchising… everywhere. Or I otherwise fi nd a way of shoehorning franchising into
the conversation. Like when my lucky, lucky friends, when trying to locate some sambuca- absorbing food towards the end of a hen night, had to listen to me reply with “oh! That’s a franchise” when discussing our nearby takeaway options, along with every piece of food franchising trivia I could remember (“franchisee Herb Peterson invented the Egg McMuffi n in 1971”). Who says I don’t know how to have a good time? My other half now possesses more
knowledge on franchising than he ever wished to. Since from any bus window, or at TV adverts, or on being handed a fl yer about a new local service I invariably point and say: “franchise!”. I’m wondering, is that sarcasm I detect in his suggestion I enter Mastermind with franchising as my chosen specialist subject? I reckon I’d do moderately well in a pub quiz round, as it goes. Seriously, though, the content of your super
September Business Franchise magazine is far from trivia and it’s highly likely that, during your research, you’ll fi nd there’s many more brands out there that are franchises than you realise, and like me, you’ll be spotting them left, right and centre! I’m not exaggerating when I claim franchising is everywhere… The stats back it up. Did you know, for instance, that franchising makes an overall contribution to the UK economy of £13.4 billion? In this month’s edition, there are also in-depth features on the cleaning sector
and on the attainability of, and returns on, a high-investment franchise, as well as advice and plenty of ethical franchises looking to add serious-minded investors, who want to run their own business, to their network. You could well fi nd your future among them! There’s also plenty to read about on our
website
businessfranchise.com, including an archive of expert advice pieces and spotlights on a variety of industries and sectors. And if you have any questions, want to test
me on my claims of franchise knowledge, or would like to suggest any alternative hobbies I could take up, drop me a line at the email below!
