Preview The National Franchise Exhibition Franchise Success!

There are opportunities abound at the National Franchise Exhibition – here, two recent success stories share their journey

Jon Lewis, Franchise Partner, Rosemary Bookkeeping, Sutton Coldfield

world. “The opportunity to be my own boss really excites me. I hope that from humble beginnings that I am able to grow a sustainable and successful business and reap the rewards of it.

After 24 years’ service in the Royal Air

Force as an aircraft engineer, Jon knew that he wanted to get into the business

“I had a very open mind about the franchise opportunity I was looking for, so decided to pay a visit to The National Franchise Exhibition at the NEC. I had seen Rosemary advertised on the bfa website but wasn’t sure it was for me. However, a chat at the exhibition with the friendly directors and team piqued my interest. The Discovery Day reinforced these thoughts and convinced me that I have what it takes to succeed with the support from the professional Rosemary team. In a year’s time I will expect to have

a well-established business, have a good reputation amongst local accountants and will be working with a range of clients.’’

Joanna Dennis, franchise development

director of Rosemary Bookkeeping says: “Jon is a people person and having been in the RAF, has great attention to detail. I have every confidence that Jon will be able to provide a great service to his clients and grow his business.” Jon has a clear view of how to develop his business moving forward. “I intend to get out and about as much as possible to explain what my franchise offers to potential clients. I already have a very good relationship with my accountant and am looking forward to working with him.”

Derek and Pauline Delaney, Franchise Partners, Granite Transformations, Bolton

The Delaneys came into the home improvement world of Granite Transformations from disparate backgrounds. Derek spent almost 20 years in the automotive trade, followed by sales management and then industrial engineering. Pauline began her career in fashion retailing before making the move to in-store merchandising in the crafts and hobbies sector.

They decided the time had come to try and make it on their own. Franchising seemed like the obvious option: “We’d always wanted to run our own business, but thought the only way we were really going to achieve this was through franchising. With a franchise, all the business problems have already been ironed out for you.”

They came across Granite

Transformations at a franchise exhibition and felt it was the right product and package for them, so they opened a showroom and gradually built up a thriving business. They were shortlisted

recently for a Family Business of the Year Award, run by their local paper. Derek puts his skills to use in managing the sales and installation team, worktop production and business systems; while Pauline turns her creative eye to their customers’ kitchen and bathroom décor, as well as ensuring the showrooms are amongst some of the best in the trade. Their son Daniel is employed by them as a qualified master installer. The Delaneys now foresee developing their business into a multi-showroom enterprise and have added more products to their range to increase their offering to customers. The Delaneys say; “it’s been hard work but it has been very rewarding to be our own bosses. We have customers who come to us from all over the region and, despite the recession, we’ve just had our best 12 months ever. We’ve also opened a new showroom and extended our franchise territory to take advantage of the market potential.”
