Franchise Opportunities Live – up close and personal with your ideal franchise

I

t is crucial for aspiring franchisees to meet face-to-face with senior managers beforehand to decide if a particular business is right for them, and ensure it fi ts in with their skills and experience. So the opportunity to meet with several franchisors all in one day is a ‘one-of-a-kind’ experience that can really help in the decision-making process. Following its successful launch last year, Franchise Opportunities Live 2013 returns to the Radisson Blu Edwardian Heathrow on 6 and 7 September 2013. It is an innovative, free event that puts budding franchisees in direct contact with a broad range of successful franchisors.

Many franchise businesses are available to meet at the event, from many sectors including property, food and drink, fi nance, home care, travel and many others. These include Caremark, Driver Hire, Guinot, La Pataterie, Maid2Clean, McDonald’s, Nature’s Purest, Revive!, TruGreen and The Zip Yard. The event is supported by the British Franchise Association (bfa), which means the franchise companies exhibiting at the event have met the Association’s code of ethics to exhibit and are considered viable franchises. The bfa will be joined by a range of industry experts, including banks and solicitors, in the bfa Franchise Advice Lounge. Visitors can ask those in the know any questions about franchising to ensure they fi nd the right franchise to suit their skills. Visitors can extend their research by attending a range of seminars throughout both days hosted by successful franchise businesses and the bfa. These cover all aspects of franchising and consist of a panel of industry-leading experts including lawyers, bankers, consultants and the franchisors themselves. Speaking at some of the

franchise talks will be experts from Caremark, The Best Of, Platinum Property Partners and Franchise Finance.

At the heart of Franchise Opportunities Live is the Franchise Hub where visitors can meet like-minded potential franchisees and franchise experts over coffee or a glass of wine in the Franchise Café.

“the unique format of this event offers a great opportunity for aspiring franchisees”

Hearing real-life stories from those who

have already made the move into franchising is another essential part of the day, giving franchisees a clear idea of what’s it like to run their own business. They will be able to quiz them on their transition from employee to franchisee, discover how they gained funding and chose that specifi c business, as well as how they survived the economic downturn. Raising fi nance is of course one of the most crucial concerns for potential franchisees. The Finance Clinic will provide a designated arena for franchisees to express any fi nancial concerns they may have and ask experts questions about the fi nance process. Adrian Goodsell, Franchise Exhibitions Manager at Venture Marketing Group, comments: “The unique format of this event offers such a great opportunity for aspiring franchisees to talk at length with businesses and network with like-minded franchisees and experts. It was a great success last year and we are hoping that it will be just as successful this year, creating a memorable experience for everyone.” n

We’re pleased to support the return of Franchise Opportunities Live following the success of the fi rst event last year. It’s an ideal way for serious candidates to discover more about the franchise sector, and their possible place within it. Modern franchising plays host to a multitude of brands across an eclectic mix of business sectors, set up to train and support their franchisees in running their own successful businesses. It’s a format that has seen remarkable success in the UK, both before and since the economic downturn. As business confi dence and outlook appears fi nally to be on the increase, it’s a sector that is expected to continue to fl ourish and this could be the perfect time to get involved. Each year since 2008 we’ve seen an

increase in the turnover of the franchise industry, while other sectors have struggled. In 2012, data showed that turnover had reached a record level of £13.4billion, representing growth 10 times that of UK GDP in the same period. Now imagine owning and operating your own business during a period of economic prosperity – with the support of an established brand and head offi ce, and the marketing, systems and advantages that being part of a wider network confers – and it’s clear that franchising is an option worthy of serious consideration. It’s important to remember that becoming a franchisee involves a serious commitment of fi nance, time and emotion in order to make your business successful; there are no guarantees. Research the opportunities carefully, and take your time to fi nd the right fi t. This show is designed to let you do just that, so enjoy talking to the exhibitors and hopefully you might just fi nd the ideal brand for you.
