Franchise Focus Kare service

INVESTMENT LEVEL: £40,000 Kay Gynane opts for quality with Kare Plus

P

ersonal experience of the inconsistent standards of care persuaded Kay Gynane to start her own business in the sector. Sadly, Kay had nursed her husband through terminal

illness as well as caring for her grandmother before she died. While she was looking after them both,

she encountered many different care agencies. The quality varied, and her experience inspired her to set up a service that could fill some of the apparent gaps. “I’d been working at head office

for Post Office Ltd, responsible for a team dealing with the customer helpline and complaints,” Kay says. “I’d been wanting to escape the corporate world and the commuting for some time, but make use of the skills I have acquired along the way so when my Nan died and left me some money, I thought this was my

chance to set up my own business.” Kay looked at three different franchise

opportunities in the care sector, but says Kare Plus was the clear choice. “I visited the Franchise Exhibition at the

NEC and was immediately drawn to the Kare Plus stand. It was well branded and professional, which appealed to me as a sales and marketing person, then when I spoke to the team I felt they were speaking my language. We got on really well and in the end I didn’t even bother visiting the other companies because I knew I’d found the right opportunity.” After she completed her training, Kay

set up her offices in Gnosall, in premises that reflect her commitment to quality. “I’ve deliberately set up in a busy main

road environment and have created a welcoming but smart professional office space,” she explains. “My aim is to set my business apart from competing agencies

in the main conurbation, both in terms of distance and reputation.” Kay is currently recruiting nurses and

Penny and Kevin Shutler

care staff in the area, many of whom are deeply impressed by her approach compared to other agencies. She believes that getting the right staff on board is an important first step. n
