Flexibility for the future T
The need to combine cost reduction, high levels of passenger comfort and the latest applicable norms and standards leads rail operators to consider refurbishing vehicles as an alternative to buying new rolling stock – a trend that entails new challenges for passenger information technology. Rémi Bilger, sales & business development manager at Televic Rail, talks about the need for a flexible and scalable solution in passenger information management.
hat refurbishing existing trains is both a cost-effective and innovative way of
modernising a fleet was shown just a while ago in London when Eversholt Rail unveiled a full- scale mock-up refurbishment of an East Coast Mainline Mark IV coach. Railway professionals and officials were shown the future possibilities of passenger comfort, including Televic Rail’s passenger information displays.
Televic Rail actively participated in the
design of Eversholt’s mock-up because it sees the trend towards re f u rbishme nt s as an interesting challenge for its passenger information technology: new and existing systems, most often provided by different suppliers, now need to be integrated, while guaranteeing user-friendliness and passenger comfort.
With this new need in mind, Televic Rail developed iCoM, its latest generation
of
passenger information and communication management. iCoM integrates three modules, allowing the operator to create, format and import passenger information on the wayside; transfer data to and from selected devices and vehicles; and deliver the right information to the right passengers at the right time.
also highlighted with the refurbishment of the Eurostar trains, where Televic information systems will be associated with wireless connectivity. Thus, iCoM offers a scalable solution for refurbished as well as newly-built trains.
We are proud to have contributed to Eversholt’s ‘Train of the Future’ and Eurostar’s next generation design. These projects, as well as our iCoM solution, demonstrate that the future’s challenges are actually opportunities for further innovation.
