The £40m, 1.75km viaduct at Reading station is a key part of the whole project, as it will elevate fast, passenger services over the freight lines, unblocking the current bottleneck at Reading.
Balfour Beatty recently started works on the new structure. The scheme includes construction of the new viaduct, including feeder line embankments, fl ood culverts, foundations for overhead lines and all associated drainage works and demolition of the existing steel bridge and a relay room to make way for the new structure.
There is also a signifi cant amount of Continuous Flight Auger piling work, which is being carried out by Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering.
