TRACK TECHNOLOGY – IAF PREVIEW

Tracks with history

One of the main attractions of the iaf – International Exhibition for Track Technology 2013 will again be the presentation of machines and equipment for the construction and maintenance of railway infrastructure, says event organiser Dr.-Ing. Siegfried Krause.

Münsterland Fair and Congress Centre have made possible the modern iaf, as has taken place since 2003.

Within the Westphalia Provincial Railway,

the station Münster Ost was opened on 30 September 1903, together with the Neubeckum – Münster line. Passenger transport was still running there up until 27 September 1975. Therefore it cannot be denied that the tracks were rather old when the first iaf was held in Münster in 2003.

On the one hand, this presented a unique nostalgic contrast: highly sophisticated track maintenance machines were on show from 2003 on antiquated tracks that originated from the 1900s and would actually have belonged in a museum. On the other hand, the setting-up of an outdoor exhibition and presentation of the vehicles became increasingly difficult.

Modern times

Since the last iaf in 2009, the WLE has invested substantially and upgraded the track. Tracks 1, 3 and parts of Track 13 have been modernised. They are now fitted with type S49 rails on concrete sleepers with modern rail fastenings. These too have had a very active life, but they are excellently suited for this purpose.

During the implementation of the maintenance work, a special highlight is also planned. As part of a learning worksite, apprentices from

For the first time, it is possible for iaf exhibitors to hire the iaf Salon for their presentations and talks. Whether you wish to present your company extensively, demonstrate your latest technologies or products in detail or discuss a current railway topic, the iaf Salon offers you the ideal environment. How you organise the event is entirely in your hands.

A technician will assist you in the installation of your presentation equipment. Interpreters (German or English) are also available. Periods of one hour can be booked, depending upon the availability.

DB Bahnbaugruppe GmbH, the VDEI and DB ProjektBau GmbH will work together to exchange approximately 500m of track in the Münster Ost railway station.

The special feature here is that when the work is completed, the tracks will really be used and not just dismantled again as is usual on a training worksite and made ready for the next group of apprentices.

Therefore, conscientious work is essential and the result will surely mean that some trainees and partners of this unusual project will look back with pride on the work they have achieved.

The complete programme of the iaf Salon will be included in the information material issued by the iaf (website, programme information at the press stand, iaf newsletter, etc.).

iaf Job Market

For the first time we are offering our exhibitors in 2013 the opportunity to publish job vacancies with us free of charge. Use the iaf as a meeting place of the international trade world to instil following generations with enthusiasm for your branch of industry and for your company.

You can make contact with young railway engineers directly at the fair and possibly recruit new members of staff.

Registration for visitors

At www.iaf-messe.com you will find information about the fair

and the accompanying

programme. Trade visitors and interested parties can also register here free of charge.

It will of course still be possible to register at the Visitors Service Point at the venue – a small administration fee of €15 will be charged per person. So don‘t hesitate and register right now!

After completion of the work, the railway track in the station will be in a condition good enough to satisfy the most up-to-date requirements of the iaf.
