Since TRE (The Railway Engineering Company) was acquired by Hitachi Europe at the end of 2012, Tim Gray, TRE’s sales and marketing director, has taken advantage of Hitachi’s network of local offi ces to establish new contacts with railway operators and contractors beyond TRE’s traditional geographic regions.
he Hitachi worldwide brand has enabled TRE to develop new international leads who
have been very interested in TRE’s impressive range of skills and detailed knowledge to help build new and improved systems to simulate, evaluate and control railway systems.
Of particular interest has been TRE’s full fi delity TREsim signalling simulators for operator training and, increasingly, for design and operation validation. TRE are able to use TREsim to simulate OEM control and interlocking systems and integrate timetable information and train characteristics.
With the rail industry’s constant focus on safety and the growing public pressures on performance and value for money, the TREsim signalling simulator package can be a valuable tool to validate infrastructure change to reduce both technical and programme risk.
Where an area is modelled by TREsim, minor modifi cations to control schemes, layouts, timetables and other operational approaches can be quickly and easily evaluated.

communications protocols mean that novel regulation and supervisory systems can be tested in the simulated environment for prototyping and proof of concept without affecting operational safety.
TRE has expanded its range of solutions from simulators into real-time control of railway to assist signallers in their day-to-day decision making.
The TREsa automatic route setting system was originally designed and developed to allow operators to confi gure, select and test variations in operational parameters on a minute-by- minute basis to meet the local operational requirements. TREsa, a SIL2 product, has been designed to facilitate integration with most signalling control systems.
