Integrated eyewear helmets N
ew to the PPE market are Centurion’s latest offerings, which not only provide
high levels of impact protection for integrated eyewear but are also manufactured in the UK and carry the recognised BSI (British Standards Institute) Kitemark, assuring the wearer of continued quality and compliance to the European Standard.
Vision Plus
Vision Plus is a safety helmet with a fully-integrated moulded visor, approved to EN 166 1 A T, the highest impact protection rating possible for eyewear.
The Vision Plus offers the same head protection features as the well-established Vision, but now features a new moulded visor, which continues to allow for prescription eyewear to be worn.
This new visor provides lower cheek coverage and has an anti-scratch and anti-mist coating.
Large side pull tabs enable the wearer to quickly and easily move the visor up and down even when wearing gloves.
Spectrum
Whereas Vision Plus has an integrated visor, Spectrum has Grade B (medium energy impact) integrated over-spectacles, giving the user two advantages over standalone spectacles; the over-spectacles provide
a higher impact grade than separate spectacles, which are only Grade F (low energy impact)
and they won’t misplace them – always at hand when needed!
Side pull tabs allow for easy retraction, are fully adjustable with temple length adjustment and a pivot system for a personalised fit.
The standard clear lens is anti-scratch and has an anti-mist coating.

Both the Vision Plus and the Spectrum helmets are constructed from high-quality strong ABS and come with a premium Hydro-Flock sweatband, six-point Terylene cradle and headband. With extended nape for added rear impact protection, the option to add the new Twist2Fit wheel ratchet and a two- or four- point chinstrap mounting facility means these are extremely strong, versatile and comfortable safety helmets.
Alongside these important industry-leading features, Centurion has built into the Spectrum helmet AquaDirect, a clever rain management system that allows rain to flow down and off the front of the peak.
Both helmets are approved to EN 397 and EN 50365. Vision Plus Visor is approved to EN 166 1 A T and EN 170 2C-1,2.
Spectrum Over Spectacles is approved to EN 166 1 B T and EN 170 2C-1,2.

Railway drainage at Heysham At
Mark Higgins of Railway Drainage Limited explains how they came to be up to their knees in their work at Heysham late last year.
RDL we have held a national drainage call-off contract with Network Rail since its formation, and before that with Railtrack, including a culvert cleaning contract. We have a great track record of working on some of the more troubled parts of the rail network, including third party complaints, so it was gratifying to be requested to investigate this site and to report on findings and propose a solution.
RDL were not the first drainage company to work on this particular problem at Heysham: previous contractors had dabbled around the edges but had not addressed the underlying problems.
Water will pool where it can’t find an outfall to flow to, which is exactly what the existing badly-damaged drainage was causing.
The underlying strata is rock, preventing the water from naturally soaking away over time. The site was very challenging, due to the very inclement weather experienced at this location.

We surveyed the existing infrastructure, identified the problems, and submitted reports and recommendations to Network Rail. One of our recommendations was accepted and RDL went on to win the works. RDL then coordinated all arrangements with local port authority officials and Heysham Golf Course officials to arrange access to the site. A new drainage run
was installed with modern
Network Rail-approved materials and the remainder of the existing drainage run was cleaned to the outfall. The standing water was reluctant to wait for commissioning and was
soon flowing to the outfall, leaving the lineside more permanent way than waterway.
Mark Higgins is the operations & technical director at RDL and takes a keen personal interest in all the company’s drainage projects. He is a career railwayman, with an enthusiasm for his subject borne out of practical experience on the Western Region with British Railways.
