Bannockburn, IL — IPC Midwest Conference & Exhibition is sched- uled for August 22-23, 2012, at the Renaissance Schaumburg Conven - tion Center Hotel, Schaumburg, IL. A valuable forum for education, busi- ness development and networking, IPC Midwest will highlight the new technologies, materials and process- es in electronics manufacturing to help engineers solve their challenges and work smarter. IPC Midwest’s two-day exhibi-

tion will star the electronics manu- facturing industry’s top suppliers as well as companies in advanced microelectronics, aerospace and mili- tary, automotive, medical and indus- trial equipment and devices, telecom- munications and other industries. Some of the world’s leading

experts will share the latest research on manufacturing defect-free, quality electronic products in the two-day technical conference. The paper ses- sions will address reliability chal- lenges for bottom termination compo- nents; advances in reliability testing; new assembly coatings and alterna- tives; innovative assembly processes for improving yields, service life and reliability; and performance charac- teristics of assembly process solder- ing materials. IPC Midwest will also host valu-

able standards development meetings. More than 75 volunteer groups will meet to discuss and develop industry standards in areas from assembly and joining, base materials and cleaning and coating to embedded devices, high speed/ high frequency interconnections and testing. A complete list of committee

meetings taking place is available at www.IPCMidwestShow.org/standards.

In addition, this year’s special

events include a free opening session on Nanotechnology and Electronics Assembly, a reception on Wednesday to meet IPC’s new President and CEO John W. Mitchell, and the sec- ond annual IPC Midwest Hand Soldering Competition. Participants will compete

against each other to build a func- tional electronics assembly within a half-hour time limit to ultimately determine who the best-of-the-best is in the Midwest. “Our inaugural event last year

was a great success and more impor- tantly, the participants had a lot of fun,” says Kris Roberson, manager of assembly technology at IPC. “We’re expecting a great turnout this year and anticipating some fierce hand-to- hand combat, so to speak.” “Many companies in the

Midwest take pride in how many IPC Certified Specialists they have on staff and this event is a fun and friendly way to give them an oppor- tunity to let their staff shine,” adds Roberson. IPC Master Instructors will

judge hand-soldered assemblies in accordance with IPC-A-610E Class 3 criteria, the overall electrical func- tionality of assembly and the speed of assembly. In addition to pocketing a cash

prize of $500, the winner will own bragging rights as the Best Hand- Soldering Technician in the Midwest for 2012. Prizes of $250 and $100 will be awarded to two runners up. Competition entries will be accepted

until July 20, 2012. Contact: IPC % 877-472-4724 or
