u GREEN VALLEY, AZ, Lodge members honored the winners of their Drug Awareness Poster Contest in a ceremony at Continental Elementary School that about 175 students attended. Lodge members awarded a medal to the designers of the best poster in each class section and awarded a drug awareness basketball to the overall winner at each grade level. The three overall winners were Estevan Maldonado (first grade), Kendra McCracken (second grade), and Corinne Fanning (third grade). In other news, lodge members honored the winners of their Drug Awareness Essay Contest in ceremonies at the winners’ schools. Lodge members selected a first-place and a second- place winner at the sixth-grade level at Sopori Elementary School. u TEMECULA VALLEY, CA, Lodge members honored the winners of their Drug Awareness Poster Contest during Family Night at the lodge. Lodge members reviewed nearly 230 posters and selected the three best boys’ and girls’ posters. Each of the winners was awarded a framed certificate and a gift card from a bookstore. The top three boys were Isaiah Fang of Pauba Valley Elementary School (first), Logan Davis of Nicholas Valley Elementary School (second), and Sam Hilsabeck of Rancho Elementary School (third). The top three girls were Breanne Reed of Van Avery Prep (first), Katie Lee of Linfield Christian School (second), and Abigail Ackerman of Buchanan Elementary School (third). u TEXAS ELKS STATE ASSOCIATION named the members of the Special Investigation Unit of the McAllen Police Department as the winners of the state Enrique Camarena Award, which recognizes law enforcement officers for excellence in combating drug abuse. cheerleaders, coaches, and school officials from Nashua North High School and Nashua South High School who attended two dinners at the lodge.


Howell, NJ, Lodge sponsored four Howell High School students and an advisor to attend the New Jersey State Elks Association’s 18th annual Peer Leadership Conference. The


weekend-long conference focused on leadership training and helping students to become positive role models for their peers. The total cost of the sponsorships was $1,650.


State College, PA, Lodge donated $1,000 to the Penns Valley Area High School Class of 2012 to support a drug- and alcohol-free graduation night party. ■
