Elk Grove, CA, Lodge donated $500 to Cases for Cheer to help buy materials. Cases for Cheer makes handmade decorated pillowcases to help comfort cancer patients. the lodge used half of a


$2,000 ENF Gratitude Grant to purchase coffee to be sent to US troops serving in Afghanistan. The coffee company donated a further $850 worth of coffee to add to the shipment. In more news, the lodge donated $350 to the Galt/Elk Grove Detachment of the Young Marines to help the detachment’s members attend summer camps and leadership training sessions.


Lodi, CA, and Stockton, CA, Lodges held a combined ceremony to honor the winners of their Americanism Essay Contests. The Stockton Lodge hosted a dinner for the ten winners and their families, after which the three first-place winners read their essays to the audience. The first-place winners were Marissa Sadek (Lodi Lodge, seventh- and eighth-grade division), Gregorio Magarelli (Stockton Lodge, seventh- and eighth-grade division), and Ryan Ruffoni (Stockton Lodge, fifth- and sixth-grade division).


Merced, CA, Lodge held a Dessert Auction fund-raiser during its New Year’s Eve Dinner-Dance. The event raised nearly $2,000 for the lodge scholarship fund.


Mission Viejo-Saddleback Valley, CA, Lodge held its annual South Orange County Law Enforcement and Firefighter Appreciation Awards Dinner. More than 160 firefighters, law enforcement officers, and family members attended the dinner. Following the dinner, lodge members presented plaques to six outstanding firefighters and 12 outstanding law enforcement officers to recognize their service to the community. The lodge was assisted by scouts from Boy Scout Troop No. 603 and Girl Scout Troop No. 261. Needles, CA, Lodge members honored Needles Middle School eighth-grade students Rebecca Zoss and Paige Boda for finishing first and second, respectively, in the lodge’s Americanism Essay Contest. Lodge members presented the two students with cash awards in a ceremony at their school.


Lancaster, CA, Lodge held a Firefighters Awards Night Dinner, which 28 firefighters, family members, and town officials attended. Following the dinner, the lodge presented plaques to Firefighters of the Year Mike Linch and Don McLaughlin in thanks for their service. Lodge members also publicly honored Firefighter of the Year Ben Sheen, who was unable to attend the dinner. Salinas, CA, Lodge held its annual Public Safety Night. About 150 law enforcement officers, firefighters, and guests attended the free dinner and presentation of awards. Lodge mem- bers presented a framed Community Citizenship certificate to Seaside Police Chief Vickie Myers, and lodge members also honored the Monterey County Police Officers Association’s Officer of the Year, Deputy District Attorney Steve Somers, and the Seaside Police Department Merit of Valor Award winner, Seaside Police Department Sgt. Bruno Diaz.
