San Luis Obispo, CA, Lodge held a dinner for the winners of the lodge’s Americanism Essay Contest. The 79 students, parents, teachers, and lodge members in attendance enjoyed a dinner followed by the presentation of certificates and cash awards to the 17 fifth- through eighth-grade students from eight schools who submitted the best essays to the contest. Lodge members also sent certificates to each of the more than 100 students who entered the contest. The total value of the cash awards was $1,200. In other news, lodge members visited California National Guard Camp San Luis Obispo and held a Deployment Barbecue for members of the 649th Army National Guard Military Police Company and their families prior to the unit’s deployment overseas. A total of 82 people enjoyed the meal, which the lodge put on with the help of two American Legion posts.
