Today, specifically developed casting additives ensure the quality of ever-larger cast parts. Te optimization of control systems for sand mixing equipment also plays an important role in the production process. Te adaptation of Torgelow’s furan resin system and the dosing of the mixer had to be oriented to the dimensions of large-scale cast parts. Te objective was to quickly mix the sand for the 80-ton cast parts, while working effectively in the process. Tis required that the furan resin system be equipped with specifically optimized components and that the correct mixing ratios be applied. Promptness, economic viability and precision were indispensable requirements. Te requirements were solved within the framework of the strategic partnership consisting of ASK Chemicals specialists, mechanical engineering man- ufacturers and in-house specialists. Today, the iron casting facility operates with sand mixing systems with extremely accurate dosing precisely optimized to large-scale casting. For the selection of suppliers, Torgelow considers not only

price, but other important assets as well. Greater importance is placed on deliverability, so the production sequence is not jeapordized—a possible risk that is often overlooked in times of economic pressure. A particular strength of ASK Chemicals in this part- nership is its single-source structure. Torgelow obtains everything it needs with respect to foundry chemicals from Hilden. In the meantime, ASK Chemicals is also responsible for warehousing and logistics. Te iron foundry currently operates at a standard capac-

ity of 70 tons of sand mixture in a ratio of 1:6 per hour. In the casting process itself, 80% of the sand is subject to high temperatures. In the opinion of technical experts in Torgelow, this process is still polluted with too much carbon and sulfur. As the foundry team sees it, the regeneration of the sand must be optimized from a chemical, wet-chemical or physical standpoint such that annealing loss is reduced. For the research team at ASK Chemicals, it was a challenge to develop its binder system to meet the requirements. Weilguni has been impressed with the collaboration with ASK Chemicals. For him, adherence to agreements and a
