“I’M JUST A MUSICIAN WHO IS HONEST”


Throughout her short life, Amy became famous for her incredibly strong voice, funky style and unique personality. Unfortunately the singer struggled publicly with substance addiction, and died tragically at 27, but her drug-fuelled reputation will not eclipse what she should really be remembered for: her music. Winehouse was first and foremost a sassy, funny and lively artist with a unique voice who created honest and heartfelt music that inspired a whole wave of British jazz artists. Contrary to what the lyrics of ‘Rehab’ may imply, Winehouse was not in denial about her problems, openly admitting to struggling with self-harm, depression and eating disorders; good or bad, she never tried to change her image and never compromised herself. Sadly, her best music was often born of her emotional suffering, and rarely have we been granted such a raw glimpse of a musician’s vulnerability and personal demons. They say good music never dies, so while we mourn the artist, we can take comfort in the fact that her music will always be loved!

1997 - She gets expelled from the Sylvia Young Theatre for ‘not applying herself’ and piercing her nose


2003 - Debut album Frank comes out


2004 - Amy gets her first Ivor Novello Award


2006 - Second album Back to Black is released


2007 - The singer gets her first BRIT Award and marries Blake Fielder-Civil


2009 - Amy is entered into the Guiness Book of World Records in 2009 for the Most Grammy Awards won by a Brit- ish Female Act
