FOR IMAGINATION: Your Mum’s House @ Punk Every Thursday

Monochrome, nicotine and pleasure. Vek’s beats roll through slow-mo footage of achingly attractive people lighting up and becoming more and more aroused the further down their cigarette burns.

KATY PERRY FT. KANYE WEST E.T.

Featuring interactions with aliens, blurred shots of wildlife footage and a naked half human-half deer Perry, it is frankly bizarre - but the kind of bizarre that warrants a look. Or two.

DJ FRESH FT SIAN EVANS Louder

FOR VALUE: Kiss The Dirt @ Catch 22 Every other Tuesday

Catch 22 on the Kingsland Road, Shoreditch, hosts an assortment of live bands every fortnight for a fiver, with free entry to the downstairs bar. The venue is buzzing with nightlife and serves a wicked selection of reasonably priced drinks in a prime location to eat out before or after so that you aren’t drinking on an empty stomach! It is definitely worth checking this night out if you are an Indie head or a rocker, as the many unsigned bands featured make it an experimental and eye-opening evening. We were lucky enough to catch a set by Childhood here recently and yes, it was siiiiick!

There are no camera tricks and no post-production interventions here, just sunlight and pure physical expression on wheels; a perfect mix of skaters’ toned bodies layered under lens flare against the LA skyline. Nice.

THE DEAD WEATHER Die By The Drop

FOR YOUR STREET CRED: A Night With @ Secret Location TBA One Saturday a month

A Night With tests out a new concept on the events calendar, hosting parties at secret locations around East London once a month and picking one big name DJ to take centre stage in a one-man show for the night. The chosen DJ usually plays a special six or seven hour set, and this Saturday 13th August will see Magda, one of the main players on the House and Techno scene, take to the decks. If you have a favourite DJ that you’d like to see play for a whole night, keep an eye on the Facebook page www.facebook.com/ anightwith and you might be privileged enough to witness it happen.

More ghost story than music video, Die by the Drop shows The Dead Weather in a Tim Burton-style graveyard world doing all the things people in dark, smokey wastelands do. The video also features one of the most effective rustic guitars ever heard.

LUPE FIASCO FT. SKYLAR GREY Words I Never Said

WHY WE AUGUST

It is all about positive vibes this month and with a carnival, the Fringe and with a Bank Holiday waiting for us at the end there is so much to smile about! We have reached the crux of

Including real video footage from the Gaza strip, 9/11 and Afghanistan, the video presents a disturbing vision of our society while Fiasco raises some serious questions in his lyrics. Go get it!

summer but thankfully the festival season is far from over. Some of the biggest are yet to come: V Fest, Big Chill and Creamfields for the ravers, Reading/Leeds for the rockers and One Love for the Dreads. Not all festivals are about mud and getting wasted, though, as the Edinburgh Fringe will prove; the Scottish capital will be playing host to loads of exciting performances - I do hear they like a drink or two! Who can forget London’s highlight of the month - Notting Hill Carnival! The incredible atmosphere and vibrancy of

festival around is infectious and just about sums August up! We don’t know if it is that summer feeling but the air is filled with positive vibes right now, go on... Look, if you’re sticking around London this summer there is so much on - go for it! The nights are warm and the days are long and lazy, and best of all it is light when we wake up in the morning so even getting up for work doesn’t seem so bad. With Bank Holiday coming and a ton of indoor and outdoor events, come rain or shine, there’s no excuse not to have a good time! Do not sing that. Way too cheesy!

Describing itself as ‘London’s Dirty Little Secret’, this night just gets bigger and better. Every Thursday night, Punk transforms itself into an art, music and sex- fuelled fiesta, with past themes ranging from ‘Studs and Sluts’ to ‘The Only Way is K’ (Er...Really?). Whilst not for the faint-hearted, the people are friendly and up for a good time and you are guaranteed to see an array of staggeringly imagina- tive, raunchy and risqué costumes. Check out Your Mum’s House on Facebook.
