Guitar Lessons

Participants have an opportunity to learn a song within the first fifteen minutes of class with this customized lesson. This

class is designed for beginning through advanced guitar players. Each studentmust have a guitar in playing condition.Handouts are used to teach popular songs. Students learn to readmusic fromtheMel Bay Guitar Method Series.

Piano Lessons

Learn your favorite Disney and theme songs from StarWars, Sponge Bob Square Pants as well as various children’s songs.

This programis designed for beginning through advanced piano players. Students are taught to read and performpieces from the JohnW. SchaumPiano Series. Each student is instructed based on completion of previous levels and instructor approval. Students also studymusic theory by completing special assignments.

Violin Lessons

Participants have an opportunity to learn today’s popular favorites as well as classics from their lesson book.

This programis designed for beginning through advanced violin players. Each studentmust have a violin (sized to fit the student), a bow and rosin. Themethod book isMuller Rusch Violin Series. Students are taughtmusical notation, bowing and care of the instrument through a combination of aural and traditional reading approaches.

Drum Lessons

Drumstudents of all skill levels are taught technique, drum separation, timing, stick control, double bass,

soloing, patterns, workouts and exercises, original fills and beats. Students are also taught to read beginner sheetmusic.

Returning Resident Music Lesson Registration

2010 winter/springmusic students currently enrolled have the first opportunity to renew their time slot for the 2010 summer season.

Resident registration for piano, guitar, and violin begins on Saturday,May 8, at 8:30 amat Lincoln Center. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Nonresidentsmay register for available openings on a walk-in basis beginning Monday,May 10.

Studentsmay register for private lessons for an additional fee. Classes that do not meetminimumenrollment are canceled and students are asked to select another available time or offered private lessons for an additional fee.No class June 23, 24, 26

& 30 and July 1, 3 & 5.

*Piano lessons are open to 5-year-old students who have completed one session of Early Learner Piano Lessons.

Music Recital

Family and friends can enjoy the music students’ performance at a recital scheduled at Lincoln Center on Thursday, August 26 between 5:30 and 8:30 pmfor piano, guitar and violin students.

MEET THE INSTRUCTORS

Madelyn Kuehl –Madelyn received her Bachelor of Arts degree fromConcordia University and herMaster of Education degree fromNational-Louis University. She has taught piano at the park district since 1998 as well as for theWood Dale, Elmhurst and Addison park districts.Madelyn enjoys teaching piano lessons. She goes beyond the instruction book by teaching her students songs, as well asmusical games whichmakes the learningmore fun.

Richard Kuehl – Richard is a certifiedmusic teacher who feels that the student should be self-motivated. To that end, he composes songs, at times, tomeet his students’ needs. Richard was the string teacher for the Burlington,Wisconsin school systemand has also been the band instructor for Twin Lakes,Wisconsin.He has built numerous music programs in various park districts,YMCAs and public and parochial schools and has been with the Downers Grove Park District since 1991.Currently, Richard teaches piano, guitar and violin but also has experience teaching electric guitar, bass guitar, banjo, viola, and cello.
