Downers Grove Park District Summer
Camps Rock!
Registration for Downers Grove Park District summer camps began in February and continues throughout the summer based on availability.We have an exciting summer line-up including action-packed sport camps, unique specialty camps, traditional day camps and our ever- popular preschool camps! New camps this year include cultural arts camps, nature camps andmuseumcamps. For added convenience,many camps now offer a daily registration fee allowing you to customize your child’s camp experience. It’s your chance to play this summer at the Downers Grove Park District.
Summer Camp Philosophy
We believe in enriching activities that encourage social and emotional growth, promote respect and kindness toward others and foster a sense of pride and honesty in both action and words. It is our goal to provide opportunities for campers to expand their knowledge and skills, experience active fun-filled days, explore the outdoors and develop lifelong friendships.
Camp Registration
Registration is currently being accepted on a first-come first-served basis based on availability. In order to ensure proper staff-to-camper ratios, registration will not be accepted after 12:00 noon on the Wednesday preceding the first day of any given session.

Parent Information Grade/Age Requirements
Children attending Downers Grove Park District campsmust be age or grade appropriate as specified in the camp description. Grades refer to the grade the child will be entering at the start of the 2010-11 school year. Preschool campers must be toilet trained (no Pull-Ups™) and age appropriate within one week after the start of a session. If specified, a copy of a birth certificate or proof of grademay be required upon registration.

Payment Plan
Families with children enrolled in eight sessions of day camp and/or total registration fees of $1,000 ormore qualify to participate in the district’s payment plan option by usingMasterCard,Visa, AmEx or Discover. Camp Staff
Each camp programis led by an adult director with experience in education, recreation, or a related field. Counselors are amix of high school and college students, parents, teachers and coaches. All staff attends a comprehensive training program which includes first aid, CPR, activity development, conflict resolution, customer service, safety and security.
Parent information packets and camp schedules aremailed prior to camp and are available on-line after June 1.Our larger camp programs will schedule a parent orientation event prior to the start of the summer season to distribute camp information, share pictures and activities fromthe previous year, review policies and procedures, and introduce camp staff. The starting date of camps is subject to change based on the last day of school for School District 58. Beginning June 1, parents can access
forms, calendars and general information on our website at
www.dgparks.org. Click on “Recreation” then “Camp”.
Ratios/Enrollment
Group sizes vary fromcamp to camp depending on age and activities. The average staff to camper ratio is 1:10. Camp programs for preschool age children maintain a staff-to-camper ratio of approximately 1:8. Each camp program lists aminimumandmaximumenrollment number. Theminimumis the number of participants needed for the programto run.Maximumenrollment is based on space limitations and staff-to-camper ratios.
Facilities
All camps include amixture of indoor and outdoor activities on a daily basis. Camps that are based out of a park area will not have immediate access to air conditioned indoor facilities.During heat emergency days, accommodations will bemade for indoor facilities and/or shaded areas.
