was promptly forgotten. Yet she was sired by the Rosafe Citation R son, Kerchenhill Proud Clarion, whose dam was one of Osborndale Ivanhoe’s most celebrated daughters, Miss Ivanhoe Scranton EX94, a member of the All American Get of Sire group. Of further significance, Squaw was line bred to Ivanhoe, the USA’s greatest stature and milk bull of that era. Debras Squaw GP was mated by Canada’s number one show ring sire of the 70’s, Quality Ultimate, an intensely ABC Reflection Sovereign bred bull and the resulting heifer, Walkerbrae Ultimate Squaw was line bred from two of the best ABC sons, Citation R and Marquis.
Upon arriving in the UK, Walkerbrae Ultimate Squaw went to Jimmy Irving’s uncle Jack's farm at Mouldyhills, calving three times there before being sold in the Mouldyhills Sale to Joylan Farms. Walkerbrae Ultimate Squaw’s show ring potential was apparent on her debut at the 1987 Scottish Winter Fair, where she went all the way to supreme dairy cow for Joylan. She also classified EX and completed a third lactation of 10,735kg at 4.52% and 779kg CFP. Ultimate Squaw became an important flush cow, producing 17 daughters in six herds. Her highest classified daughter was the thirteenth registered Rowallen Counselor Squaw EX91 for Simon Hancock. There were nine daughters born at Joylan, one EX and six VG, the best of these being Joylan Southwind Squaw 7 VG86. Calved as a heifer at Joylan, she sold to

David Garside for his newly established Severnvales herd. Following his dispersal, Squaw 7 finished her days at the Yates family’s Logan herd, where she made a best yield of 9432kg at 4%bf and 681kg CFP. Calving five times, she produced five natural heifers, one EX and four VG. The last one was Logan Patron Squaw who left four more generations averaging 88 points with one still in the current herd.
The Squaw family at Richaven stems from Severnvales Chief Squaw, who has 18 daughters including seven EX and five VG.
Richaven Goldwyn Squaw EX93-2E is a daughter of Richaven Raider Squaw EX97-6E.
So, it was Severnvales Chief Squaw that travelled a few miles up the River Severn from her birthplace and continued to thrive on riverside pastures at Richaven. Her four lactations there were impressive, averaging 12,310kg at 4.1%bf with a final lactation of 14,765kg at 4.35%bf and 1096kg CFP. Chief Squaw bred 18 daughters including seven EX and five VG, as well as one EX and two VG sons. Coincidently, her thirteenth daughter was the shining star Richaven Raider Squaw who’s six EX maternal sisters include Astre Squaw EX93 and Leader Squaw EX91. In turn, Leader Squaw produced Richaven Shottle Squaw VG88 two year old that was to match her great grand dam’s achievement by becoming SuperCow at AgriScot 2013. Tragically soon after the show, this exciting young cow died of peritonitis, but she left two daughters, an EX92 Million and a VG89 Goldwyn, the current UK Dairy Expo champion – Richaven Goldwyn Squaw 6 VG89. In a herd renowned for gathering world famous families the Squaws have more than maintained their position and the best may still be to come as Richaven Raider Squaw heads for her 12th birthday in February. The success of the Squaws is set to continue and the Bowns at Northfield Farm intend to market many more from the banks of the Severn, which has proven to be their happy hunting ground.
