ERIE CLAIM WELSH DAIRY SHOW TITLE

A small show of Holsteins were forward at the Welsh Dairy Show for judge Michael George of the Brynhyfryd herd to cast his expert eye over. Sadly for some breeders, TB was one of the reasons numbers were back from previous years

C

laiming the Holstein championship and also

standing reserve interbreed champion was Erie Maplerose PS Lustre EX93 from Iwan Morgan. Backed by 10

generations of VG or EX dams including the Royal Winter Fair champion Idee Lustre, this Shottle daughter calved in May with her fourth and is giving 58kg a day with a projected yield of 15,000kg.

She stood first and reserve champion at the Royal Welsh Show earlier in the summer, while as a heifer she stood reserve champion heifer at the Royal Welsh and as

a second calver she was reserve champion at the Welsh Dairy Show and champion at Pembrokeshire Show. “The champion and reserve headed a phenomenal mature cow class. These cows show exactly what our breed is capable of,” commented Michael George.

Standing reserve champion was the second prize mature cow Castellhyfryd Spirte Rosina EX96-4E from Simon and Sian Davies. Now in her fifth lactation she has given 12,813kg at 3.83%bf and 3.06%p in 186 days this lactation. No stranger to success she has twice been

interbreed champion at the Royal Welsh Show in 2011 and 2014.

Eifion, Mary and Wyn Jones’ second calver Feithy Windbrook Glenys 11 then stood

honourable mention. Classified VG88 she was shown six weeks fresh and giving 48kg a day. Her dam is the EX95-5E Feithy Hermitage Glenys 6, a daughter of Brynhyfryd Hermitage. “This young cow is a true junior cow, she had strength through her front end, a wide rump, good feet and legs and a welded on udder. She has everything to mature in to a great cow.”

The overall Holstein championship line up.
