WHAT ELSE TO SEE

Along with the event organisers, some 15 local breeders will be welcoming visitors to their farms in conjunction with the event. All farms are located within approximately a four hour drive from the exhibition centre.

The open farms range from smaller breeders to larger, more commercially focussed units allowing you to explore and learn from our European counterparts. Individual farm open times have been published on the event website www.colmar2016.com along with the contact details you must ring to arrange your visit. Please bear in mind not all tours are translated in to English.

OPEN FARMS INCLUDE Gaec Wilt

The farm is located in a small village in Alsace (Dachstein) and is managed by three partners and an employee; Olivier, Jean Claude, Nicolas and Anne-Lise Wilt. This mixed farm is close to the airport at Strasbourg and just minutes from Colmar, which should allow you a quick detour for a visit. Travel time: 1.30hrs. Contact: Oliver Wilt; tel: +33 (0)6 16111949; email: ferme-wilt@orange.fr website; www.ferme-wilt.fr

Earl Wollenburger

Now known as the prefix Riedell, this family business is in the center of Alsace Bindernheim and just minutes from Colmar Exhibition Centre. The herd consists of 38 EX TB with some well known cows such as Riedill Blitz Storm (EX 95), Delicia (EX 91) and Sam Cradenhill Elegance (TB 88). The Earl is also co-owner of Delicia (Baxter X Shottle, EX 91) with Gaec Wilt. Travel time: 1.30hrs. Contact Laurent Wollenburger; tel: +33 (0)6 37 34 86 86; email: bernard.wollenburger@wanadoo.fr

Gaec Wittelsheim

Having improved the buildings in 2009, this new operation was based on drawing on different practices encountered from farms in Europe. With the objective to limit costs to recoup the investment, they adopted an energy self-consumption policy through the installation of a solar power plant which enables them to produce half the requirement of electricity for the livestock enterprise. Conscientious breeders, but also lovers of beautiful cows, they enjoyed recent success at the Swiss Expo with Valada (Sid x Shottle). Travel time: 2hrs. Contact Jean-Jacques Rorhbach; tel: +33 (0)6 85 14 68 49; email: gaec.wittelsheim@wanadoo.fr website: www.gaecdewittelsheim.com
