Blydale Quality Lynn won the August and September class before standing reserve champion for Central Counties.

all competitors from the top to the bottom of each class. “The last two classes showed more knowledge and understanding of the calves and this edged them in front in the championship. My winner on the day didn’t have the easiest calf to work with, but did a really good job of showing it to its best potential.”

Standing reserve champion was the winning senior handler Will Horsley from Border and Lakeland, showing Woodcatt Braxton Royal. This was Will’s third class win at the All Breeds All Britain having previously stood honourable mention. He was also champion showman at UK Dairy Expo 2015. “The reserve showman was a quiet and controlled showman that was able to make improvements to the smaller calf when swapped over,” explained Ms Rijneveld. James Doherty stood honourable mention leading Knowlesmere Windbrook Chancel on his debut appearance in the show ring at the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show. He stood second to Rebecca in the mature class.

Winning the baby calf class was the South West Club’s Davlea Aftershock Raven 2.

“The young man in honourable mention did a nice job. He was relaxed, quiet and controlled, but didn’t handle changing calves as well as the champion and reserve.”

Winning the junior

showmanship on his first time at the All Breeds All Britain was Northern Ireland’s Brian Weatherup. Brian stood first at the Northern Ireland qualifier for the first time this year, having had numerous wins at Balmoral, Antrim and Ballymena Shows, he was also champion showman at Lurgan and third at the Royal Highland Show in 2013. “For being so young the junior class winner was consistent. This class showed the most variation, but there was a lot

of potential in the competitors, particularly in the top five.” In the intermediate

showmanship class Desmond McCorry secured Northern Ireland’s second win of the day. Desmond has qualified every year since he started competing five years ago and stood reserve champion at Northern Ireland’s calf show and in 2013 and in 2014 stood fourth in his class at the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show.

“I found this handler to be an easy winner, but after that the placings were close. Unfortunately, this showman lacked the extra concentration in the championship to gain a placing.”

Panda Bar Humbug Gem won the December and January class for Devon.

Woodhey Heztry Lustre won the October and November born class for Western.
