utumn shows have been in full flow since the last issue and despite some shows struggling for numbers, the quality of cows continues to be a credit to both exhibitors and the breed. The All Breeds All Britain Calf Show is one of the highlights of the HYB calendar as competitors come from across the country to compete for the national title. The emotion shown by competitors epitomises the hard work, dedication and passion involved and is always an honour to witness. Equally, success for UK genetics has continued across the water and it was brilliant to see the Winter family’s Corringham herd achieving third top price at the German Masters and flying the flag for UK breeding.

looking at fertility which is key to efficiency and features on how the Eastknook, Darrahill and Vortex herds look at how they benefit from focussing on fertility.

Cornwall Club’s feature member is Peter Blake from the Whitsand herd, he gives an insight in to how he has home grown his herd from 37 to 350 since 1997.

Meanwhile John Gribbon continues to search for hidden gems that have the potential to go to the European Show in June 2016. It will take a lot of preparation and planning, particularly regarding health status, so please get in touch if you think you have something special.

Following some constructive comments about the new design we hope you enjoy this issue as much as the last. If you have any other comments or suggestions they will be gratefully received on journal@holstein-uk.org. And, somehow we have reached the end of another year, it has certainly flown past. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
