ALL BREEDS

ALL BRITAIN CALF SHOW 2015 This year’s All Breeds All Britain Calf Show was once again hailed a success with calves and young breeders from across the UK travelling to the Three Counties Showground, Malvern, to compete at the National Show.

C

laiming the prestigious Holstein calf championship was Lancashire Club’s Lynholme Glauco Pledge, bred and owned by the Lawrence family. Led to success by Bob Lawrence, this June-born Glauco daughter has gone one better than her dam Holmland Lavenguard Pledge who was purchased for 3200gns at the Holmland dispersal and had a coveted show career. She stood first heifer in milk at Northern Expo, second at AgriScot and second as a junior three year- old at UK Dairy Expo 2015. As a calf she stood reserve champion at the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show and champion calf at Great Yorkshire Show. Glauco Pledge stood first and honourable mention at UK Dairy Expo, champion at Great Yorkshire Show and first at the Lancashire qualifier.

Judge David Hodgson from the 2015 Premier Herd, Wormanby, commented: “I was overwhelmed by the style, ring presence and quality throughout the calf championship. It was a fantastic show of calves and I was extremely happy with my 12 in the championship, but the six in my final line up were outstanding. The champion had the advantage over the reserve for having more dairy character through her neck and front end, as well as being more open and deeper ribbed than the reserve.” Standing reserve champion was Blydale Quality Lynn from Central Counties Club, led by champion showman Rebecca Channing. This one is bred and owned by Sam Wake, Quality Holsteins and Manuel Gutierrez. This September 2014-born Atwood sired heifer stood first at UK Dairy Expo, first and

champion at Royal Norfolk Show and first and honourable mention at the Central Counties Calf Show. Her dam is Eastside Lewisdale Angelena who is sister to Lewisdale Gold Missy. Quality Lynn is maternal sister to Valleyvale Rae Lynn EX95. “The reserve heifer was more square in the rump, handled her legs better and carried more width through her front end, which gave her advantage over the heifer in honourable mention,” explained Mr Hodgson.

Knowlesmere Windbrook Chancel stood honourable mention for the Shropshire Club. Bred and owned by Andrew and Jane Whittaker and shown by James Doherty, Windbrook Chancel is born in May 2015 and is out of Knowlemere Sanchez Chancel who was All Britain junior heifer
