craftworkers to the gallery. In addition to the wide variety of events, the charity also pays for their artists to visit the island’s schools to give talks and run demonstrations and workshops.

Art has been proved to be remarkably beneficial to those suffering from many illnesses, both physical and mental. That includes depression, anxiety and stress, as well as everything from school phobias and bullying, to those with Autism. The gallery tries to help and it supports workshops with Mencap, Earsay and Les Amis.

The increasing number of children who, for many reasons find it difficult to attend school, are now often schooled at home, and the Art in the Frame Foundation at the gallery has become an accredited examination centre for GCSE and A level Art, Design, Photography and Textiles. The foundation can pay for top UK and continental tutors to come to the Island for the day with all travel and accommodation paid for. Top UK tutors are also brought over to Jersey to give advice on UK courses and on making applications. Students studying at the gallery have been achieving top grades with some going on to UK Art Foundation and degree courses.

‘We hope that the public will support our efforts by purchasing work from The Harbour Gallery or by sponsoring an event, exhibition or a specific need,’ Pat Robson said.

‘This will help us to continue the work that we have been doing to support our island. Any donations or help, perhaps in the form of volunteering, would also be gratefully appreciated. We look forward to welcoming everyone to The Harbour Gallery soon.’
