DIGIMAP

FINDS ITS WAY TO AN EXCITING FUTURE

Digimap has been in Jersey for over 15 years as a specialist in “smart mapping”. During that time Digimap has successfully produced a range of solutions for commercial businesses and the utility companies.

By Glen Kehoe, Director, Digimap Jersey

As the States of Jersey’s official mapping agents for the marketing, sale and distribution of their mapping, our focus is to create mapping-based solutions using Geographic Information Systems. GIS benefits many businesses throughout the Island who appreciate its many uses.

Using GIS graphics and States of Jersey mapping data to create maps it is then used to identify problems and evaluate possible solutions. GIS mapping links spatial data (the digital twin of an actual location or of something) with its attribute data or relevant information about its location.

An example of the different ways electronic mapping can be used is illustrated by Digimap’s work with the Jersey Rally. The routes for the stages are planned using States of Jersey mapping, and then a mobile mapping app called ‘Survey123’ is used for the door to door visits to people’s properties within the stage areas, informing them of the event. A record of each visit is recorded and can be displayed on a dashboard at headquarters for race officials to monitor progress.

Leading up to the event, the mapping is used to publish the stages to the public, competitors and the officials, and then

during the event, tracking systems are fitted on some of the key vehicles to monitor their progress and the tracks and times are displayed on software developed by Digimap.

As most of the components and apps are now standard, off the shelf components, they can be very cost effective for commercial organisations.

Digimap also works closely with a range of partners in Jersey
