LIFE OF A DAY IN THE
VALLANCE WILKINSON HEAD OF INTERNATIONAL WEALTH MANAGEMENT, SATIS ASSET MANAGEMENT
Working with international clients means I need to be reachable at all hours of the day, so it is not unusual to find me responding to e-mails or taking client calls in the very early hours of the morning. Generally, though I am an early starter and regularly on the first flight out of Jersey to join the team in London.
On my way to work I always catch up on the financial markets as this equips me for the day ahead. At Satis we consider ourselves scientific investors, with the basis of our scientific approach being Modern Portfolio Theory, developed in the early 1950s by economist and academic Harry Markowitz (and others). His discovery is based on the very simple premise that diversifying a portfolio can reduce volatility while enhancing risk adjusted returns. We look to invest for the long haul, limiting the amount of buying and selling within our portfolios, with sensible and strategic rebalancing making this a very cost- effective way to invest.
Once in the office I join our investment meeting. The business has been extremely successful over the last couple of years and we are in a period of expansion. We meet regularly to discuss our daily operations, marketing strategy and monitor growth and acquisitions. We feel it is important to grow while sympathetically staying true to our core values.
The next stage and most important part of my day is catching up with my clients. I have a number of international clients as one of our specialisms is offering tax efficient investment advice to US Nationals. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know the people I advise on both a personal and professional level and strongly believe the relationship between client and adviser is the most important component in financial planning. I am fortunate that Satis are not driven simply by financial reward but by doing the very best on every interaction we have with our clients, delivering impeccable service and building trust.
Because our offering is so unusual we regularly get referrals from other financial service providers both in the UK and internationally. A large part of my day is spent speaking to potential new clients and stakeholders who are interested in building mutually beneficial relationships.
The families we act for are highly appreciative of our offering. We pull together all the skills needed for clients to run their financial lives more simply and ultimately more cost effectively by combining high level investment advice with robust tax advice. We advise on estate planning, risk management, asset management, retirement planning and charitable giving and have all the qualified experts to do so in
