Some questions for Danny

Question: What do you do to unwind at the end of a long day? Answer:

If I’m really busy then it might be back to wedding

editing in the evening, or unwinding with a wine and watching a boxset with my wife.

Question:What do you like the most about being a Photographer?

Answer: Freedom.

Question: What do you dislike most about being a Photographer?

Answer: The uncertainty that comes with freedom.

Question: How did you become a Photographer? Answer:

I turned a hobby into a job by learning and

practising as much as possible, slowly building the business alongside my old job before I was able to go full time a couple of years ago.

you need to be really disciplined to try to reply to all channels of enquiry and keep up with conversations across multiple platforms - the balance of which is something I’m still working on.

If I do not have other commercial jobs (such as head shots, property photography, family photography etc.) I’ll then spend the afternoon editing, while usually listening to podcasts.

Working alone from home does not always create the most conducive conditions, but I’ve found that podcasts and audiobooks have become both great company and a brilliant learning resource. There’s many a rabbit hole I have gone down and the sheer volume of information available nowadays means that you can find out about almost anything.

One of my favourite subjects apart from photography (and research) are the ‘mini beasts’ of the insect and arachnid world and on an ideal day I’ll spend a hour out in nature, sometimes in the garden or in the woods, trying to photograph these incredible looking creatures.

With the use of high magnification lenses, macro photography allows me to capture images that open a portal into another world - one which is often savage, beautiful and fascinating all at the same time.

If I’ve had any luck I’ll edit the images when I get home and then fact check what I think I know about the creature online with my daughter.

Being able to open her eyes to the beauty and detail within nature brings me so much satisfaction and is definitely my favourite part of the day.

I’ll then do bath, story and bed time.

Question: What advice would you give someone, either just starting their career or midway through their career, who wants to be a Photographer?

Answer: Leaving the security of regular employment and starting your own business is definitely not the easiest option but if you do something that you are genuinely interested in, the rewards far outweigh the struggles.
