LIFE OF A DAY IN THE
PAUL RICHARDSON MANAGING DIRECTOR OF BUILDING RENOVATIONS LIMITED
I wake around 05.30 a.m. most mornings and the first thing is a traditional builder’s brew. Then it’s back upstairs to listen to Good Morning Britain and review my emails. The sight of Piers Morgan early in the morning gets me out of the house pretty sharply after I have made my wife, Sue, a cup of coffee, and given my two Jack Russells their first Dentastix of the day (the first of many).
Arriving at our group HQ at Havard House in Great Union Road at around 07.15 a.m., I plan the day ahead. That includes responding to emails and updating my calendar which is guaranteed to be full.
My morning workload can include tendering, general paperwork, procurement activities, project briefings and catch up meetings with my management team or business partner, Andy Hunter.
However, with new projects commencing on what seems a daily basis much of my time is spent managing expectations from our clients and the stresses and strains this places on our employees.
I also hold the position of Chairman of the Jersey Safety Council and this can, at times, take up a fair amount of time depending on the training and other initiatives being developed or rolled out.
Building Renovations is currently developing two properties at Fairview in Trinity and this also places some design pressures on my normal day as I act as client and contractor! Building Renovations Ltd is a family-owned business which will have been operating in Jersey for 30 years in 2019.
I joined the company in 2009 to give it a fresh impetus from my experience in construction and the local building industry.
Due to the demand for quality specialist building services in the Island, we have expanded to include Building Renovation Ltd, Tower Shopfitting & Construction Ltd and BR Plumbing & Heating Services Ltd, HVC Jersey Ltd and Harbour View Construction Ltd in Guernsey. These all form part of the Havard Group and I spend some of my day dealing with board level responsibilities within all of these companies.
My day is primarily spent managing Building Renovations Ltd and helping the team to grow the services we offer and deliver on the vision we have for our future. That means leading the business, performing day to day
