FRANCHISE
Life ALWAYS ANYTIME Pav Kang and Hardev Kang are multi-unit Anytime Fitness franchise owners in Birmingham
Why franchising and why Anytime Fitness? Before we became franchisees with Anytime Fitness UK, we managed our property business. We chose Anytime Fitness for several reasons: fitness has always been our passion; the brand stood out because it’s well-established with a strong global presence and their values around community and coaching resonated with us, so it felt like a natural fit. One of the biggest advantages of working in the
fitness industry is the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives. Fitness – a resilient sector and of growing importance – is all about health, confidence, and overall wellbeing. We see members transform physically and mentally and knowing that our business contributes to that kind of change is incredibly rewarding.
Business so far and the challenges faced Business is going well! Launching our club was an exciting experience, but also a learning curve. The first challenge was managing initial setup, from finding the right location to overseeing the build-out of the gym. The next was to build a membership base. Standing out and communicating our unique value was essential – thankfully, the strength of the Anytime Fitness brand, combined with our commitment to delivering a welcoming, community-focused environment, helped us grow.
Training and support Support has always been comprehensive and, from the outset, training has been thorough. Before opening our gym, we participated in a franchise training programme that covered everything from daily operations to sales strategies and marketing best practices. There's ongoing support through regular check-ins from our franchise performance coaches, marketing assistance and the network of other franchisees who are always willing to share insights and advice.
How running our own business has changed our lives It's been transformative – a whole new level of responsibility, but also freedom. We now control our own destiny, and there’s a great sense of pride and fulfilment knowing that the success of the business is a direct result of our efforts. It’s also allowed us to strike a better work/life balance. We work hard,
“Looking ahead, we are excited about the future”
but have more flexibility in how we manage time – invaluable for our personal lives. Looking ahead, we are excited about the future
– we’re currently in construction for our second location. Our goal is to continue building a strong community within our gyms, helping people lead healthier, happier lives, and ensuring the businesses thrive for years to come.
Advice for future franchisees in the fitness industry To anyone considering a franchise in fitness, our main of advice is: be prepared for hard work but know that it’s incredibly rewarding. Also: be dedicated, and passionate about fitness and understand your local market and what will attract and retain members. Having strong business acumen and people skills is essential; it's a people-focused business, and your ability to build relationships with your members, staff, and community can make or break your success.
