Minster Cleaning
Why Minster Cleaning lends itself perfectly to the management franchise model
M
inster Cleaning was established in 1982 and has been a full member of the British Franchise Association (BFA) since 1992.
A management franchise is a business that is
managed by the franchisee, but without necessarily carrying out the work involved themselves. In a franchise like Minster Cleaning, this means that the franchisee looks after the day to day running of the business, while teams of cleaning operatives carry out the cleaning. Although some do, it is rare to find the franchisee of a management franchise carrying out the work themselves. In any management franchise, franchisees need to be able to manage people. This could be office staff or in a commercial cleaning franchise like Minster Cleaning, this also includes the field team of cleaning operatives, mobile cleaners and area supervisors. The largest Minster Cleaning franchises have more than 250 members of staff in total. All franchisees are encouraged to put middle management teams in place to support them. Knowing that you have a great team of supervisors in place relieves some of the pressure of managing such a large team.
Supervisors/area managers help to manage the day-to-day running of contracts, ensuring customer requirements are met. They also manage cleaning teams and the recruitment and training of employees. Managing staff isn’t just about people management. It is also about learning your own management or leadership style. The best managers conduct themselves in a calm, steady and transparent way. You should be able to lead your staff without ‘micromanaging’ them, communicate openly and provide support to the whole team, regardless of their role and individual capabilities. Employees should feel comfortable in coming to you with any problems they have, either around their own role or with the staff who report to them. Making sure that you are available and have the time to give to your employees is also very important. Management of people also covers the rewards
and incentives you offer. Multiple Minster Cleaning branches have ‘Employee of the Month’ awards that are communicated to branch staff and posted on social media, giving the employee public recognition for a job well done. For more senior members of staff, you could also set measurable goals for their performance, and reward staff who achieve their goals. Minster Cleaning currently has more than 40 management franchises nationwide, with turnover over £60million. New franchise opportunities include Buckinghamshire,
Doncaster, Guildford, Leicestershire, London and Peterborough. There is a current resale opportunity in Glasgow. Initial startup cost is £20,000 plus vat, which covers a £5,000 marketing launch fund, along with licence fee, training, I.T. equipment and stationery. In addition, you will need £35,000 working capital (plus personal drawings).
