A leap into care After a career in technology and telecoms, Masen Naidoo took redundancy in 2014 and found himself at a crossroads. Watching a TV documentary about poor care standards, he turned to his wife and business partner, Selvie, then a care manager, and said he could do a better job. “She looked at me, entirely unimpressed, and told me to go and try it. So, I did,” he says. Researching the sector, Bluebird Care’s ethos of
respect and dignity stood out, along with its link to US home care specialist, Interim Healthcare, that helped illustrate where home care in the UK was heading.
From one territory to seven Naidoo launched his first territory, Mendip, from scratch in 2014. “My Registered Manager and I sat at our desks, looked at the phone and waited for it to ring. It did ring, eventually, and we haven't really stopped since,” he recalls. Ferndown followed in 2017, an Outstanding CQC
rating arrived in 2019, Swindon mid-pandemic in 2020, North Somerset joined in 2023, and three further territories, Southampton, New Forest and Portsmouth, followed in 2025. “Each step taught me something, usually the hard way.” Today the business spans seven territories with a
large, dedicated team delivering thousands of hours of care every week.
Support that never stopped “The initial training gave me the grounding in the regulatory world, the operational model and the standards expected,” Naidoo says. “Just as valuable were the relationships, being able to pick up the phone to people who had done this before. That support has never stopped and having a community of franchise partners who share so openly, in a heavily regulated sector, is something I never take for granted.”
It could be you! For anyone eyeing multi-unit growth, his advice is simple: “Get the first one right before you think about the second, because scale magnifies whatever you already are. Build your team early, be patient, and lean on the network. You are never solving a problem someone else hasn’t already faced. "There are still days when I look at how much
we have grown and quietly wonder how I got here. I have come to believe most people building something feel that way, at least some of the time."

What's ahead... Looking to the future, Naidoo wants to keep growing thoughtfully, extending into more complex nursing care and children’s care, so the business can support families across every stage of life. Would he recommend it? “Yes, and I have.
Franchising gave me a proven model and a genuine network at my back. Bluebird Care specifically, because the values are real and lived, not laminated on a wall.”
