Women in franchising

What training and support does Zero Dry Time provide and how quickly were you up and running? After the initial conversation with my friend, to visiting the Franchise Exhibition in Manchester and then the conversation with David, the owner of Zero Dry Time it was pretty straightforward. I then went to head office in Newcastle upon Tyne to see how the systems worked on a taster day. Within four months of my first conversation I was up and running and on my two weeks’ training! Initial training was excellent, very

informative and on the job, involving two weeks based at head office, out each day on jobs with a member of the Zero Dry Time team. Training is ongoing and the support from head office is second to none.

How has trading been? Things started off slow as I set up my advertising with head office support, but work was soon picking up. I've had a few ups and downs with Covid 19 but 14 months in I couldn't wish to be any busier!

Any stand-out moments so far? Leaving head office on the last day of my training with a handshake from the MD of Zero Dry Time, David Muirhead, and a van full of my new machines and products, armed with the knowledge to run my own business

How has life changed since you became a franchisee? Life is good and the balance of work-to-life ratio is fantastic. I have an elderly father and mother and father in-law who we are able to support, I have three sons and three grandchildren which makes my life busy. Having my franchise gives me space to have quality time with them.

“Life is good and the balance of work-to-life ratio is fantastic. My family keeps me busy but having my franchise gives me space to have quality time with them”

How have you found being a woman in franchising? Would you recommend it to others? As a woman running my business one practical thing customers call me who particularly want a lady in their home as they feel more comfortable with a female. Some customers are pleasantly surprised when a woman turns up! As for whether I’d recommend it? I say to anyone: Go for it!

What makes a good franchise owner? You need to be motivated with a positive mental attitude and reasonable strength. It helps to have a 'people personality', a good sense of humour and to want to do the best job that you can. Basic admin skills and a good accountant are also recommended.

What’s next for this franchisee? Plans for the future: to keep busy moving forward and looking to employ someone next year!
